The Abbess Adelicia Charity
Early in 1982, following various negotiations and proposals, Lord Salisbury the owner of the Chapel complex, handed the site, including the Chapel, to the Diocese of Chelmsford, who formed the Abbess Adelicia Trust to take over its administration.
The Trustees have recently, in partnership with a housing association and the London Borough of Redbridge, had the Almshouse and the Chaplain’s House transformed into
seven self-contained almshouse apartments, retaining the outside appearance of both houses.
The Charity has four Trustees who have retained a meeting room in the Chaplain’s House.
The Trustees work closely with the Friends of the Hospital Chapel, whose raison d’être
is shown under the ‘Friends’ section of this website. Both parties are anxious to ensure
the future of the Chapel for coming generations.
